PRP: The What, How and Why
PRP, which stands for Platelet Rich Plasma, is a treatment which uses a person's own blood to accelerate healing in numerous procedures.

Share this article:

PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma – is a treatment which uses a person’s own blood to accelerate healing. In aesthetic medicine, uses include but aren’t limited to skin rejuvenation, hair regrowth and natural fillers – all increasingly popularised through influencers such as Kim Kardashian receiving the treatment. At Hawksley, we’re proud to be the exclusive UK distributor for T-Lab, a well-established PRP brand who we come on top in all our key areas; quality, safety, customer service, reputation and knowledge.

Administrating PRP is relatively simple. Using a specialised PRP tube, the practitioner will collect approximately 10-20ml of blood from the patient. This is then centrifuged, the force of which separates the blood into Platelet Poor Plasma, Platelet Rich Plasma, and Red Blood cells. (If you’re not sure on which Centrifuge to use, our D06 machine is perfect for beginners!) The platelet rich plasma is then taken and reinjected into a localised area. It is thought that the increased concentration of growth factors in the PRP is what stimulates the healing in the skin and hair follicles.

When it comes to aesthetics, there’s a lot out there. Botox and facelift surgeries are widely known as popular options in skincare. PRP however, is increasingly becoming the treatment of choice, being the most natural and safest option. Being autologous, the chances of your patient having an adverse or allergic reaction is significantly decreased compared to the alternative. PRP is easily a much more inexpensive and non-invasive than a hair transplant surgery – and the results really speak for themselves.

PRP is transforming the face of medical aesthetics, and is only continuing to grow. If you’re interested in joining the ride, reach out to Hawksley – we have some amazing PRP trainers across the UK who we would love to introduce you to. We offer all the necessary PRP equipment and accessories, along with reliable and informed advice for the best products for you.
